Fondant in Florida

I hadn't made a cake with fondant since moving from the desert to one of the most humid places in the country... what a huge difference! It's so much easier to work with fondant in a humid environment, so I think I'll be using it more often.

My daughter turned 12 and she wanted a fondant cake, that was pink of course, and she loved the look of the marbling.

Happy 13th!

As requested by my now 13-year-old son, a towering rainbow birthday cake! He saw it on Google and felt certain it would make is birthday... happy. And it did! Yay for food coloring!

Future Wildcat Fan

This may not look like a baby shower cake, but it is! The parents of the baby boy were determined to make their little guy a University of Arizona fan. :)

Princess Lula

My daughter wanted a "Princess" cake for her birthday. I figured pink and shiny was pretty darn close.

Poseidon's Trident

My, now, 11 year-old son loves the Percy Jackson series of books. So, for his birthday we went with a Poseidon theme - underwater. We decorated with blues and played ocean sounds during his party. His sister made little "fishes" and stuck them up all over. It was so fun and I'm happy he loved the cake!

Brigham's Buttons

This cake is for a cute, little guy, just barely born. When I told my nine-year old, Q, the concept for this cake, he smartly asked, "But... why is a button cute?" Great question. Answer: it just is.

Skate or Die... or Just Eat Cake

My oldest child - wonderful, darling Q - just turned nine years old (GASP). When I asked what kind of cake he wanted, he initially told me that he wanted a robot. I was slightly relieved when he changed his mind. This skateboard proved to be pretty simple and really fun to make! Happy Birthday, Q! Now, quit getting any older... please!

Flashback

I was looking through old photos today and found these; my wedding cake (circa 1998) and my parents' wedding cake (circa 1970).

Labor of Love

I made this cake for my brother and his incredibly lovely wife (you just couldn't ask for a sister-in-law this wonderful; though I am spoiled in that I have several sisters-in-law that are that wonderful!). I was very honored to make this cake for their reception to celebrate their getting "sealed" in the temple (a very happy ordinance in the LDS faith). My weekend spent with family and the happy couple's closest friends was a thrill - especially because all of our children ran around like crazy and thoroughly enjoyed one another's company.

This was the biggest and most difficult cake I had taken on so far. My super talented nieces helped me out in a big way (I couldn't have pulled it off without them) and my mother gave me her kitchen for the weekend. Of course, my husband was very supportive... and I'd like to thank the academy!

Sprouting Daisies

This cake was made for my friend's baby shower - she is having a girl (in case you couldn't guess). It's covered and decorated in fondant.
